Flag 33: Bayt al Ridwan (Fealty which earns Allah’s pleasure): (Fath-48: 10)

(i) The Pledge of the Tree (Arabic: الشجرة بیعة bayʻat ash-shajarah) or Pledge of Satisfaction (Arabic: الرضوان بیعة bayʻat ar-riḍwān) or Pledge of Ridwan was a pledge that was sworn to the Islamic prophet Muhammad by his Sahaba (companions) prior to the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah (6 AH, 628 CE). The pledge, sworn under a tree, was to avenge the rumoured death of Uthman bin Affan.

(ii) The pledge was successful in demonstrating to the Quraysh the determination of the Muslims. They soon released Uthman and sent down an ambassador of their own, Suhayl ibn Amr to negotiate the terms of an agreement that later became known as the Treaty of Hudaybiyah.

> ” The Arabs of the desert who stayed behind will say to you: ‘Our belongings and families kept us engaged, so ask pardon for us’. They say with their tongues what is not in their hearts. Tell them: Who can prevail with Allah with you if he intends to do you harm or if He intends to do you good? Nay, but Allah is ever Aware of what you do”: (11)

That is what Allah has said before. They will say you are jealous of us. Nay they do not understand, save a little”: (15)

> ” Say to desert Arabs who stayed behind: You will be called against the people of mighty prowess. You will fight against them till they surrender. If you obey, then He will give you a goodly reward; but if you turn back, as you have done before, He will punish you with a grievous chastisement”: (16)

> ” No blame is there on the blind, nor on the lame, nor on the sick (if they do not go forth to war). Whosoever obeys Allah and His messenger, He will admit him to gardens underneath which rivers flow, and whosoever turns back, him He will punish with a painful chastisement”: (17)

Had it not been due to believing men and believing women whom you knew not, and whom you might have triumphed and thus incurred guilt unknowingly on account of them (He would have allowed you to force your way, but He held back your hand) so that He may admit into His mercy whom He pleases. If these (believers) had been separated from them, He would have inflicted a grievous chastisement on disbelievers”: (25)

(i) ‘make it prevail over all religions’ refers to the arrival of the twelfth Imam.

> ” Muhammad is the messenger of Allah, and those who are with him are severe against infidels but compassionate among themselves. You see them bowing and prostrating, seeking His grace and pleasure. Their mark is on their faces (foreheads) from the effect of prostration. Their description in Tawrat, and their description in Injil, is like a seed that sends out a stalk, then strengthens it, and it becomes stout and rises firm on its stem, delighting the sowers, in order to fill the disbelievers with rage. Surah Al Hujurat

> ” O you who believe, do not put (yourselves) forward before Allah and His messenger (in any event), and fear (His wrath); verily Allah is all-hearing, all-knowing”: (01)

Flag 39: Reverence to Allah & the holy Prophet Likened with each other: (Hujurat-49: 01)

> ” O you who believe, do not raise your voice above the voice of the prophet, and do not speak loudly to him as you do to one another lest (all) your (good) deeds become vain while you do not perceive”: (02)

> ” Verily they who lower their voices in presence of the messenger of Allah are those whose hearts Allah has tested through taqwa. For them is forgiveness and a great recompense”: (03)

Flag 41: Rumours and news need to be confirmed before initiating actions: (Hujurat-49: 06)

(i) The verse refers to unestablished complaints against a group of the recent converts by one of the companions and was revealed in the spirit of a general reprimand.

> ” Know that the messenger of Allah is among you. Were he to follow you in most matters you would certainly be in distress, but Allah has endeared the faith to you, and made it attractive to your hearts, and rendered disbelief and transgression repugnant. They are those who are on the right path”: (07)

> ” By Allah’s grace, and (it is) a bounty (from Him), Allah is all-knowing, all-seeing” : (08)

Flag 42: Unsolicited Consultation: Beware! Allah speaks, commands acts through the Holy Prophet: He is all-knowing, all-seeing: (Hujurat-49: 07-08)

> ” If the two parties fall into a quarrel, make peace between them; but if one of them transgresses against the other, (then) fight against that which transgresses till it complies with the command of Allah; and if it complies, then make peace between them with justice, and be fair, Verily Allah loves those who are just”: (09)

(iii) On the authority of Imam Jafar Sadiq: Allah loves those most who make peace among quarrelling groups, because with Allah it is the best Zakat man can give in the way of Allah. He accepts it at once.

> ” O you believe, let not a (group of) people laugh at one another (to scorn) who may be better than they are, nor let (some) women (laugh at other) woman who may be better than they are; nor slander one another, nor give one another nicknames. Nay, you would abhor it. Then fear (the wrath of) Allah. Verily, Allah is oft-returning (in mercy), and most merciful”: (12)

> ” The desert Arabs say: ‘We believe’: Say to (them): You do not believe. Better say: ‘We submit’: for faith has not yet entered your hearts, but if you obey Allah and His messenger, He will not diminish anything of your deeds. Verily Allah is oft-forgiving, merciful”: (14)
