IN THE NAME OF ALLAH, THE BENEFICENT, THE MERCIFUL

Surah An Naba

(78:01-40)

” Of what they ask one another”? (01)

” Of the great news”: (02)

” About which they differ”: (03)

” Verily, they will come to know soon”: (04)

” Verily, verily they will come to know soon”: (05)

Flag 1: The great news: Wilayah! Imamat (Shia Fiqh)? (Naba-78: 01-05)

Note:

(i) ‘ Naba-il Azim’ (the great news) refers to the man as vicegerent to represent Allah on earth in order to exercise authority on His behalf. i.e. imamah or wilayah.

(ii) From the very beginning, imamah or waliyah has remained a most bitterly contested issue.

(iii) Even amongst faithfuls disagreement exists to accept the fact that there is always a divinely chosen representative of Allah on the earth who by his absolute submission to Allah (abdiyat) and total control over human shortcomings reaches the stage (Fana-fi-Allah-absolute absorption of divine attributes) and (baqiya-billah: acting on behalf of Allah as His instrument).

(iv) ” Holy Prophet told his companions: ‘The great news’ refers to Ali ibn Abu Talib.

(v) Ibn Arabi observed: The day of resurrection and ‘Wilayah’ of Ali ibn Abu Talib are the two sides of one reality.

(vi) On the authority of Imam Baqir: ‘Naba-il-Azim’ refers to Ali ibn Abi Talib.

(vii) Imamat (Shia Fiqh): The Concept imposed by Allah Himself: The Concept in the light of Quranic Verses outlining Imams and Imamat:

(viii) Continuation of Muhammad’s Guardianship: Delegated by Allah through the holy Prophet to the twelve Imams of Ahlul Bayt in an unbroken chain culminating in twelfth Imam (Muhmmad al-Mahdi: The living Imam): Imam Mehdi is the living Imam under Allah’s protection behind the veil.

(ix) Few Quranic verses concerning ‘Imamat’ cited below:

“(Remember) the Day when We will summon every people with their leader (Imam); then whosoever is given his book (of deeds) in his right hand, then these shall read their book (joyfully), and they shall not be dealt with (even the breadth of the thread) unjustly”

(Bani Israil-17: 71)

“But whosoever is blind in this (life) he shall (also) be blind in the hereafter, and far astray from the (right) way”

(Bani Isail-71: 72)

(x) Understanding Imamat:

(a) Imamat is a leadership function which may or may not run in parallel to Nabuwat. For instance, Ibrahim was a Prophet and subsequently assigned the additional responsibility of being an Imam also (Baqarah-2: 124).

(b) Appointment of an Imam is by Allah alone and has not been delegated by Him to anyone.

(c) The holy Prophet and the twelve Imams of the Ahlul Bayt in an unbroken chain are infallible (Masoom).

(d) Imamat is hereditary, requiring holy lineage and genetic purity.

(e) Imamat carries with it absolute knowledge (Hikmah: Divine Guidance) passed on by Allah Himself directly or through the holy Prophet.

(f) It is necessary for an Imam to declare his (Imamat) and continue discharging his functions irrespective of holding kingdom or authority or not: there being no compulsion in Islam (Baqarah-2: 256).

(g) It is necessary that faithfuls should be aware of the existence of the Imam at all times.

(h) Worldly kingdom and authority is not mandatory for an Imam to discharge his functions; but if faithfuls choose him to do so; it becomes an ideal solution, conforming to Allah’s command in its entirety

(i) Allah has declared in emphatic terms that leadership (Imamat) shall not be bestowed on unjust (Zalimeen: Baqarah-2: 124).

(xi) A few Quranic citations concerning ‘Imamat’ mentioned below for reference:

Flag 7: The Mankind in ArRahman’s Court on the ‘Day’: Angels and Spirits stand arrayed in Silence: Who is the Speaker of the truth by Allah’s permission? (Naba-78: 37-38)

Note:

(i) Only those having Allah’s permission (covenant) to intercede may be allowed to speak.

(ii) Undermentioned verses offer a glimpse in this regard:

(a) None can intercede without Allah’s permission (Baqarah-2: 255)

(b) Those who have taken a promise from the Merciful (Maryam-19: 87)

(c) Who the Merciful has given permission and whose word He accepts (Taha-20: 109)

(d) There is no intercession save after His permission (Yunus-10: 03)

(e) ArRahman shall be pleased to accept their word (Taha-20: 109)

(iii) None other than those thoroughly purified by Allah (The holy Prophet and his Ahlul Bayt inclusive of their twelve Imams in an unbroken chain along with messengers) may qualify for inclusion in this category.

(iv) Angels and spirits are two different things.

Flag 8: Warning & Invitation to seek refuge with Allah: The certainty of the coming reality (the ‘Day’) in full view! Woe to those who still persists in their disbelief: (Naba-78: 39-40)

” Verily We have warned of a chastisement near at hand, a day when man shall see what his two hands had sent before, and the disbeliever shall say: Woe to me. Would that I were dust”! (40)

Surah Abasa

(80: 01-42)

” He frowned and turned away”: (01)

” Because a blind man came to him”: (02)

” What shall make you know that perhaps he wanted to purify himself”: (03)

” Or be admonished, and the warning profits him”? (04)

” As for him who thinks himself independent (wealthy)”: (05)

” To him you pay attention”: (06)

” Though there will be no blame on you if he does not purify himself”: (07)

” But as for him who comes to you striving earnestly”: (08)

” And he fears Allah”: (09)

” Him you neglect”! (10)

” Nay, but it (the Quran) is a reminder”: (11)

” So let whosoever pleases keep it in mind”: (12)

Flag 18: (Abasa: The Frowned): Was it a warning to the holy Prophet or to the Rich Quraysh): (Abasa-80: 01-12)

Note:

(i) The verses (Abasa-80: 01-12) refers to the visit of a blind poor man (Abdullab ibn Ummi Maktum) to the Holy Prophet while he was in conversation with rich Quraysh.

(ii) The Holy Prophet received him with kindness and asked him to sit beside him.

(iii) Quraysh leaders did not like the interruption and one of the companions frowned and turned his back on him and this verse (Abasa-80) was revealed.

(iv) Some commentators insist that (Abasa) refers to the holy Prophet who had been warned in these verses for his unbecoming behaviour.

(v) A large number of Muslim Scholars persistently try to find weaknesses in the holy Prophet’s character. With a singular ambition (To bring down the holy Prophet to the status of a normal person with usual faults and weaknesses and capability to err: All, in order to hide the weaknesses of the companions thereby bringing all of them at par; ignoring the infallibility of the holy Prophet).

” (It is) in books greatly honored”: (13)

” Exalted purified”: (14)

” In the hands of scribes”: (15)

” Noble, virtuous”: (16)

” Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he”! (17)

Flag 19: The accursed/ungrateful man failed to carry out what was enjoined (Yasin:60-61) on him: (Abasa-80: 13- 23)

Note:

(i) Sirat-e-Mustaqeem is discarding the worship of Shaytan and submitting/surrendering to the worship of Allah (God) alone.

(ii) The important aspect which needs to be noted closely is the emphasis on discarding worship of Shaytan which precedes worship of Allah (Ibadat).

(iii) The order of priority is the same as in Allah’s very first commandment: La ilaha ill-Allah (There is no god but God). It is, therefore, necessary to discard false gods before accepting Allah’s (Oneness).

(iv) The verses below ( Yasin-36: 60-61): Reemphasise the commanded order of priority,

“Did I not enjoin on you, O children of Adam, that you should not worship Shaytan – verily he is your awed enemy – And that you should worship Me? This is the right path

(Yasin:60-61)

” Let man look at his food”: (24)

” Then We split the earth with good cleaving”: (26)

” And made grain grow”: (27)

” And grapes and vegetables”: (28)

” Olives and dates”: (29)

” Laughing and full of joy”: (39)

” (Some) faces on that day will have dust upon them”: (40)

” Darkness shall cover them”: (41)

” Those! They are the disbelievers, the iniquitous”: (42)

Flag 21: When every soul shall turn heedless towards every other soul (Abasa-80: 33-42)

(iii) Quran:The Rolling up of the Heavens- A Cyclic Process: (Anbiya-21: 104)

” On that day We will roll up the heavens as a written scroll is rolled up. As We began (started) the first creature, so shall We return it. (It is) a promise binding upon Us. Verily, We have been doing it”

Flag 25: Know the true status of Muhammad if you still have doubts in your mind? (Takwir-81: 17-24)

Note:

(i) The Ascension (Mairaj): (Najam-53: 06-18: Bani Israil-17: 01).

(a) The holy Prophet’s ascension was physical.

(b) During ascension the holy Prophet was able to travel at speeds unknown to contemporary Physics.

(c) During ascension the holy Prophet passed through the boundaries of the physical realm under the Divine influence (details beyond level of human knowledge).

(d) Descension means his reappearance in physical form.

(e) The distance (two bows or still nearer) between the ‘Divine’ and the holy Prophet described in terms of (Qaba Qawsayn) represents the ultimate closeness between the infinite and finite on an unknown scale.

(f) No created being could ever achieve parity with the creator based on any scale. In other words, no created being could ever become a creator. Accordingly, (Qaba Qawsayn) stands as an insurmountable barrier (not possible to physically define) between the Creator (Allah) {who does not owe His existence to any creator (not possible to describe Allah beyond this)} and His created being (Abd: Servant) which is the holy Prophet.

” Ibrahim was not a Jew, nor a Christian, but an upright Muslim; and he was not of the polytheists”

” By the day when it reveals its radiance”: (03)

” By the night when it enshrouds it”: (04)

Flag 77: Declaration on oath concerning cosmic signs which manifest Allah’s Way (Sunnat), infinite power & the unique glory: (Shams-91: 01-07)

” And inspired it (with the faculty of knowing) what is evil and what is good”: (08)

Flag 78: Distinction between Evil & Good: Understanding intellect based (Knowledge: ilm): (Shams-91: 08)

Note:

(i) The introduction of the faculty of intellect in the two legged ancient specie, sometimes referred to as ‘homo-erect’ around (60.000-20,000 BC), arguably coinciding with the arrival of Adam on earth, set the stage with respect to what we call history of ‘Intellectual Development’ or the ‘Evolution’ of ‘Homo-Sapiens’.

(ii) Defining Knowledge (ilm):

(a) Allah insists on the use of the faculty of intellect bestowed by Him on man, to be resorted to, for ‘Observing, Evaluating, Assessing and Analysing with Reasoning and Arriving at Conclusions’.

(b) The results of such exercise as a whole, including all details contained therein, may be termed as knowledge (ilm). The knowledge, therefore, is the sum total of all the results of the collected information and experience.

(iii) The same points to a single source of knowledge (ilm), power and glory which is none other but Allah.

(iv) Allah does not accept the faith of those who follow him without thinking, and only with imitation.

“It is not for any soul to believe except by Allah’s permission, while He lays uncleanliness (of infidelity) on those who do not contemplate”

(Yunus-10: 100)

(v) In other words, the potential to think about the Universe and the creations using intellect bestowed on human beings is obligatory.

(vi) Accordingly, to seek knowledge (ilm) and using it, is a necessity and a duty.

(vii) The obligation to contemplate is the characteristic that stands out as Adams’s superiority over Iblis. The demonstrated potential, both in spiritual and physical sense put together, convinced the angels concerning the superiority of Adam and to prostrate to him as commanded by Allah.

(viii) The knowledge (ilm) is one of the attributes of Allah. The same, with respect to the entire universe inclusive of mankind, is best defined as a byproduct of the intellect, bestowed by Allah on Adam. He is the owner of all the encompassing knowledge (ilm) and it’s only and the absolute source.

(ix) Allah’s gift of the intellect to mankind (Adam), which resulted in the acquisition of the knowledge (ilm) and its use, makes it singularly different from all other creations.

Surah Al Inshirah

(94: 01-08)

” Have We not expanded for you (O Muhammad) your breast”: (01)

Flag 93: Muhammad granted perfection in the faculties of knowledge (ilm), reasoning and using it: (Inshirah-94: 01)

Note:

(i) This verse refers to the perfection granted to Muhammad continuing into the Ahlul Bayt (inclusive of the unbroken chain of their twelve Imams: Ahzab-33: 33) is second only to Allah.

” And taken off from you your burden”: (02)

” which weighed down your back”: (03)

Flag 94: Imamat: Offloading Muhammads burden: (Inhsirah-94: 02-03)

Note:

(i) On the request of Musa, Allah expanded his breast and gave him support of Harun, his brother, to strengthen his back and appointed Harun as his vizier.

(ii) Similarly, Ali ibn Abu Talib was appointed Imam and Holy Prophet’s successor to strengthen his back and lighten the burden of the prophet-hood.

(iii) Also the institution of Imamat was confirmed.

(iv) Few Quranic verses concerning ‘Imamat’ cited below:

“(Remember) the day when We will summon every people with their leader (Imam); then whosoever is given his book (of deeds) in his right hand, then these shall read their book (joyfully), and they shall not be dealt with (even the breadth of thread) unjustly”

(Bani Israil-17: 71)

“But whosoever is blind in this (life) he shall (also) be blind in the hereafter, and far astray from the (right) way”

(Bani Isail-71: 72)

(v) Understanding Imamat (Shia Viewpoint):

(vi) Allah has declared in emphatic terms that leadership (Imamat) shall not be bestowed on unjust (Zalimeen: Baqarah-2: 124).

(vii) A few Quranic citations concerning ‘Imamat’ mentioned below for reference:

Quranic References: (Bani Israil-17: 71): (Maidah-5: 67 & 03&07): (Ahzab-33: 33): (Shura-42: 23): (Nur-24: 55): (Zukhruf-43: 61) (Inshirah-94: 7&8): (Naba-78: 01-05).

(Maidah-5: 67)

(ii) Delivery of Allah’s Command:
While returning from his last Hajj on the way back to Madina, the Holy Prophet received Allah’s command identified above. (Maidah-5: 07)

” He created man from a clot (clinging entity): (02)

Flag 104: Quran on Human Biology: What is clot (Alaq: A clinging entity): (Alaq-96: 02)

Note:

The Lord (Allah) described the entire biology of human creations centuries in advance of the scientific scripts which are common knowledge today:

(a) Fertilisation:

” Verily We created man from a drop of mingled fluid (life-germ) in order to test and try him; so We gave him hearing and sight”

(Dahr-76: 02)

(i) The precise ideas need to be understood concerning the complexity of the semen and the fact that an infinitely small quantity is required to ensure fertilisation.

(ii) The Arabic word nutfah has been translated as “small quantity”. It comes from the verb meaning ‘to dribble or to trickle’ and is used to describe what remains in the bottom of a bucket which has been emptied. The verse correctly implies that fertilisation is performed by only a very small volume of liquid.

(iii) On the other hand, mingled fluids (amshaaj) has been understood by early commentators to refer to the mixture of male and female discharges. Modern authors have corrected this view and note that the sperm is made up of various components.

(iv) When (Dahr-76: 02) mentions a fertilising fluid composed of different components, it also informs that human progeny will be formed from something extracted from this liquid. This is the meaning explained in verse (Sajdah-32: 08):

“Then He made his offspring from the extract of base fluid (from the essence of a despised fluid)”: (Sajdah-32: 08)

(b) Implantation of the Egg:

“He created man from a clot (God fashioned humans from a clinging entity)”

(Alaq-96: 02)

(i) Once the egg has been fertilized in the Fallopian tube, it descends to lodge itself inside the uterus. This process is called the ‘implantation of the egg’. Implantation is a result of the development of villosities, which, like roots in the soil, draw nourishment
from the wall of the uterus and make the egg literally cling to the womb. The process of implantation is appropriately described in several verses by the word ‘alaq’.

(ii) There is no reasonable translation of the word ‘alaq other than to use it in its original sense. It is a mistake to speak of a ‘blood clot’ here. It is a derivative meaning which is not as appropriate in this context.

(c) Embryo:

“Then We made him of a sperm, in a firm resting place”

(Muminun-23: 13)

“Then We made the sperm into a clot, then We made the clot into a lump of flesh, then We made in the lump of flesh bones, then We clothed the bones with flesh (I fashioned the clinging entity into a chewed lump of flesh and I fashioned the chewed flesh into bones and I clothed the bones with intact flesh) thereafter We caused it to grow into another creation; so blessed be Allah, the best of the creators”

(Muminun-23: 14)

(i) The evolution of the embryo inside the maternal uterus is only briefly described, but the description is accurate, because the simple words referring to it correspond exactly to fundamental stages in its growth.

(ii) The term ‘chewed flesh’ (mudghah) corresponds exactly to the appearance of the embryo at a certain stage in its development.

(iii) It is known that the bones develop inside this mass and that they are then covered with muscle This is the meaning of the term ‘intact flesh’ (lahm).

(iv) The embryo passes through a stage where some parts are in proportion and others out of proportion with what is later to become the individual. This is the obvious meaning of the verse (Hajj-22: 05).

“O, people! if you are in doubt about being raised to life again, then (remember) that verily We created you from dust, then a drop of sperm, then from a clot, then from a lump of flesh, formed and unformed {fashioned (humans) a clinging entity, then into a lump of flesh in proportion and out of proportion} that We may manifest to you (Our power). We cause what We will to stay in the womb till an appointed term, then We bring you forth as infants, then (We bring you up) in order that you reach your maturity. And of you is he who dies, and of you is he who is brought back to the feeblest old age so that after knowing he knows not anything. You behold the earth all withered, but when We send down rain upon it, it bestirs itself, swells, and brings forth every kind of attractive herbage”

(Hajj-22: 05)

(v) Nothing here contradicts today’s data and, furthermore, none of the mistaken ideas of the time have crept into the Quran. Throughout the Middle Ages, there were a variety of beliefs about human development based on myths and speculations which continued for several centuries after the period. The most fundamental stage in the history of embryology came in 1651 with Harvey’s statement that: ‘all life initially comes from an egg’. At that time, when science had benefited greatly from the invention of the microscope, people were still arguing about the respective roles of the egg and spermatozoon.

(vi) Buffon, the great naturalist, was one of those in favour of the egg theory. Bonnet, on the other hand, supported the theory of ‘the ovaries of Eve’, which stated that Eve, the mother of the human race, was-supposed to have had inside her the seeds of all human beings packed together one inside the other.

(iii) Allah’s Way (Sunnat): (Following contribution from an unknown source is acknowledged with thanks).

(a) The term ‘sunna’ occurs fourteen times in nine Quranic verses. It is used in four verses in the expression ‘Sunnat al-Awwalin’ or the ‘sunna of the ancients.’ The term ‘sunna’ is usually interpreted as meaning ‘example’ or ‘fate’, but it is a more general concept that means ‘way,’ ‘practice, ‘course,’ ‘tradition,’ ‘habit,’ ‘state,’ or ‘situation.’ So ‘Sunnat al-Awwalin’ should mean ‘the way or practice of the ancients.’ These are three of ‘ four verses: (Anfal-8: 38) (Hijr-15: 13): (Kahf-18: 55)

Surah At Takathur

(102: 01-08)

” Vying for the plentitude keeps you occupied”: (01)

Flag 125: The competing for personal exaltedness and self-projection: (Takathur-102: 01)

Note:

(i) Shaytanic Motivation to Override Intrinsic Defence (Fitra):
The basic motivation promoted by Shaytan revolves around self or ‘ME’ alone. The children of Adam had always been fascinated by the irrepressible desire for the acquisition of superiority over others. In the language of Sub-Continental rural livelihood, the same could be summarised by the proverbial Urdu ‘3-Zs’ (Zar, Zameen and Zun) standing respectively for wealth, land and woman. The Shaytanic wish list of motivational factors kept on enlarging with the passage of the time.

(ii) Overriding (Fitra), as always. continues to be the key Shaytanic target. Because, the instinct (Fitra) leads to surrender to Allah. The act of total surrender opens the door for the unconditional compliance with the ‘Divine Order’, a fatal blow to the Shaytanic motivation.

(iii) The ‘Divine Order’ calls for submission to ‘HE’ alone who is none else but Allah.

(iv) Everything in the Universe belongs to Him. The individual possessions are temporary, blessed by Him as a ‘Trust’, for which the individuals stand accountable.

(v) The concept further specifies, timeless (without particular reference to a specific era) declaration, which Shaytan is up against as below:

” Say (O Muhammad): We believe in Allah and what has been sent down to us, and has been sent down to Ibrahim, and Ismail, and Ishaque, and Yaqub, and the tribes, and what was given (books) to Musa, and Isa, and the prophets from their Lord, we make no difference between any of them and we have surrendered to Him (we are Muslims)”

(Imran-3: 84)

” Say: Verily my prayer and my sacrifice, my life and my death (all of them) are of Allah, the Lord of the worlds”

(An-am-6:163)

(vi) Accordingly, the chosen course (Shaytanic motivation as against complete submission to Allah preached by all prophets/messengers, imams alike) is destined to lead to an eternal fire (Hell) or bliss (Paradise) respectively. In order to prevail, Shaytan finds ways to hide the above concepts (Imran-3: 84: Anam-6: 163) behind the readily available facade of lusts for life or (Vying for plentitude).

” Until you come to the graves”: (02)

” Nay, you will come to know soon”: (03)

” Nay, Nay, you will come to know soon”: (04)

” Nay, would that you knew it with positive knowledge”: (05)

” You shall certainly see hell fire”: (06)

” You shall certainly see it with the surety of vision”: (07)

” Then, you shall be questioned on that day about the bounties (you enjoyed)”: (08)

Flag 126: Know that all the bounties received and enjoyed in this world are to be accounted for? (Takathur-102: 01-08)

Note:

(i) Included in Allah’s bounties are the thoroughly purified by Allah (Ahzab-33: 33) which are none other than the holy Prophet and the Ahlul Bayt (inclusive of their twelve imams in an unbroken chain).

(ii) Allah’s Confirmation of the path of the ‘Thoroughly Purified’ being the straight path to whom ‘Anamta Alaihim’ (Fatihah-01: 07) & ‘Urwatul Wuthqa’ (Baqarah-2: 256) are applicable.

” The path of those upon whom You have bestowed Your bounties; not (the path) of those inflicted with Your wrath, nor of (those) gone astray”

(Fatihah-1: 07)

(iii) On the authority of Imam Jafar Sadiq & Imam Rada:
Allah shall examine mankind about their belief in Him and their acceptance of the Holy Prophet and his Ahlul Bayt as their masters (mawla) in order to obey them and follow them.

(iii) Supplication on completion of the recital of the holy Quran on the authority of Imam Zayn Al Abidin:

O Allah! Certainly through Your help I have completed the recitation of Your book, You sent down as a light (elucidating wisdom).

  • (It is) A corroboration and amelioration of that which had been revealed in the earlier scriptures, (but) it is superior in style and substance, therefore, You preferred it over every narrative You have narrated.
  • It teaches to distinguish between good and evil, bifurcating the lawful and unlawful;
    (it is) a Quran, explaining and analysing the framework and substance of Your commands;
(it is) a sacred document in the hands of Your servants, fully and thoroughly made clear in detail:
  • (it is) A divine abiding revelation, communicated toYour Prophet Muhammad (blessings be on him and on his children):
  • (it is) A true basis of knowledge and education by following which we steer clear of disorderly lawlessness and stupid ignorances: + (it is) A remedy for those who after receiving the information, believe in its truthfulness through reason and understanding, and act upon it in letter and spirit:
  • (it is) A demonstration of just rules and methods, nothing comes out of it which departs from truth:
  • (it is) A source of decisive guidance never grows dim nor do its clear signs; signs for those who look for guidance:
  • (it is) A milestone showing the direction of salvation and everlasting happiness; whoso decides to pursue this route never goes astray, and whoso holds fast its clasping handhold never falls into the clutches of destructive calamities.
O Allah! Just as You helped us to attain proficiency in its recitation, and made the pronunciation easy for our tongues to manifest the beauty of it style:
  • Let us be among those who guard themselves against errors and abstain from that which has been declared unlawful in it; yield to You with positive acceptance of its decisive verses:
  • And make every effort to affirm and attend carefully to the consimilar therein as well as its clearly visible signs (decisive verses). O Allah! verily You revealed it in totality to Your prophet Muhammad, (blessings of Allah to be on him and on his chilren), through divine communication; laid bare every aspect of its extraordinary system of knowledge before him:
  • Relied upon us to explain and expound its knowledge:
  • Preferred us over those who are unaware of its meaningful wisdom:
  • Enabled us to claim the right to defend it by placing us in the higher region of learning over those who do not have the ability to shoulder this responsibility.
O Allah! For the resons You filled our hearts and minds with its import (meaning and tendency), through Your mercy gave us a thorough awareness of its glory and completeness; we beseech You to send blessings on Muhammad, who preached its contents, and on his children who are its very active expert advocates:
  • And let us be among those who know and make known that certainly it (the whole) is from You (their Lord), till there remains no distracting question whatsoever about its authenticity, and there is no jerk or obstacle which could swerve our march on the path shown therein. O Allah! send blessings on Muhammad and his children:
  • And let us be among those who hold fast to the cable (cord) of Allah:
  • And take shelter under (refer to and rely upon) its decisive verses based upon reason and logic to cope with its con similar verses:

  • Light up the inner light and the power of vision by its enlightening bright source which brings to light every aspect of knowledge:
  • And do not seek and inquire for guidance from anything other than this book.
O Allah! Just as You set up Muhammad to stand upright, through Your book, as a decisive sign to point out convincingly unto You:
  • And made accesible the road unto Your pleasure for only those who come through the path (medium) of his children, so also send blessings on Muhammad and on his children:
  • And (for us) make the Quran:

  • A ladder to climb into the higher regions of blissful peace and harmony:
  • A conviction to tie us with everlasting happiness after we go through the ordeal of test and trial on the day of requital, a recommendation to facilitate our arrival in the eternal land of comfort and enjoyment.
O Allah! Send blessings on Muhammad and on his children:
  • And, through the Quran:
  • Take off the load of troublesome burden which weigh heavy on our backs:
  • Let us take to heart the refined natural disposition of those who, pleased and satisfied, always did good, and let us follow in their footsteps, the track they kept to, day in and day out, till we are cleaned of all the dirt of immorality through its orderliness:

  • Make us see clearly that which carelessness folds up to obscure our analytical power of review,
  • (to such an extent) That our hearts and minds get at the root of its extraordinary wisdom:
  • And pay careful attention to the warnings, its similes and parables point out, which are so penetrating (sharp and astute) that even the strongest columns of towering mountains were too weak to carry.
O Allah! Send blessings on Muhammad and on his children:

  • To do good in our day to day life:
  • And by using it as a shield keep our conscience clear from the onslaught of the diabolical suggestions of the devil:

  • Make it easy for us (to suffer) the agony for lying in the last gasps at the time of death, out of breath, the final assault of the death-rattle when the breath of life comes up to the throat and it is said: Who is the spellbinder?
  • (Then) The angel of death comes in front from behind the unknown to take away the breath of life, shooting death-dealing arrows (striking the fatal blow) to throw (us) in the expanse of wild loneliness, spraying into the air the bitter deadly poison (but) made palatable:
  • (and hereafter) Our departure, taking us nearer to the end, begins, our deeds hanging around our necks all along the journey, lying still in the graves till the appointed day (of judgement) to meet (You) takes place. O Allah! Send blessings on Muhammad and on his children:
  • And let our underground sojourn (long wait) deep inside the layers of earth be a good omen for receiving Your blessings:
  • Let our stay in graves, after leaving the world, be a comforting halt:
  • Make enough room for us inside the narrow walls of buried abode:
  • Do not disclose the infamy of our shameful guilt before the people on the day of judgment.
    In the name of Quran:
  • Have mercy on us:
  • When, we, in a hopeless situation, present ourselves before You:
  • Help us to overcome the crisis we shall encounter while passing over the bridge (Pull-e-Sirat) on the day of requital, without our steps faltering thereon to land us in the hell:
  • And light up our graves to remove darkness before we are brought to life again:
  • Save us from the agony of the day of resurrection and the acute anguish of the day of disaster.
Let it be a day of regretful anxiety and remorseful repentance:
  • For the oppressors:
  • their faces sullied and tarnished.
    While our faces:
  • Shining and bright.
    And in this world:
  • Let there be love and tenderness in the hearts of believers for us, (so that) our lives do not become hard and miserable.
O Allah: Send blessing on Muhammad, Your beloved servant and messenger:
  • Commensurate (equal in measure and extent) to that which he did to spread Your message:
  • To carry out Your commands:
  • And to give correct advice to Your servants as a sincere friend. O Allah! Let our holy Prophet (Your blessings be on him and on his children):
  • Occupy the nearest possible nearness close to You in preference to all other prophets, on the day of judgement:
  • And give permission and influence:
  • To speak in favour of those whom he finds fit for recommendation:
  • Hold him high in Your estimation as the worthiest and most substantial individual:
  • And let him reach the zenith (highest point) of glory.
O Allah: Send blessings on Muhammad and on the children of Muhammad:
  • Let his foundation tower and dominate:
  • Let his arguments make a deep and everlasting impression:
  • Let his judgement and conclusions rely upon reason and equity:
  • Let his intercession receive Your approval and sanction:
  • Let his influence gain Your close attention:
  • Let his style and manner vie (shine bright) in grace and beauty:
  • Let his light, light up the whole universe:
  • Let his status reach the climax.
  • Let us have a meaningful existence in the light of his ‘way of life’ (sunnah):
  • (till) We depart from here disciplined in his creed:
  • Trained in and well versed with his ways and means:
  • And let us be among those who obey him.
  • Raise us on the day of resurrection in the group of his disciples:
  • Let us present ourselves to him at his cistern (pool of Kawther), until we are drunk.
O Allah! Send blessings on Muhammad and on his children:
  • In a way, he expects them to reach them through Your generosity, liberality and kindness.
Verily You are the owner of boundless mercy and surpassing generosity. O Allah! compensate him:
  • For what he did to make known Your message:
  • To convey Your signs (verses of Quran:
  • To give sound counsel to Your servants as a sincere friend:
  • And to strive in Your cause leaving no stone unturned:
  • (it should be) A compensation you have not allowed yet to any of Your favourite angels or prophets chosen as Your messengers. Peace be upon him and his chaste and pure children, and also mercy and blessings of Allah be on them.
