IN THE NAME OF ALLAH, THE BENEFICENT, THE MERCIFUL
Surah Al-Baqarah (253-286)
Surah Al Imran (01-91)
Al-Baqarah-2 (253-286)
” Of those messengers, We have exalted some over others; of them are some to whom Allah spoke, and some of them He exalted in rank; and We gave to Isa, son of Maryam, clear evidences, and aided him with the holy spirit. And if Allah has so willed, those who came after them would not have fought one another after the clear proofs have come to them; but they differed, and there were some who believed and others who disbelieved. And if Allah had so willed, they would not have fought one another, but Allah does what He likes”: (253)
Flag 1: Hierarchy amongst Prophets & Glimpse into Allah’s Way: (Baqarah-2: 253)
” Of you who believe! Spend out of what We have given you before the day comes when there shall be no bargaining, nor friendship, nor
intercession-and the disbelievers, they are unjust” : (254)
Notes:
- Injustice is the root of all other wrongs
- Ascribing partners unto Allah is the greatest injustice (Luqman-31: 13)
“Allah! There is no God save He, the ever-living, the self-subsisting (by whom all subsist). slumber does not seize Him; nor does sleep; to Him belongs whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth. Who is he who an intercede with Him, except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what is behind them, while they cannot comprehend anything of His knowledge save that which He wills, His throne (knowledge) extends over the heavens and the earth and the preservation of them does not tire Him; and He is the most high and great”: (255)
Flag 2: Ayat ul Kursi: Allah’s Knowledge, Power, Authority & Grandeur: (Baqarah-2: 255)
Note:
- On the authority of Ahlul Bayt: kursi or arsh, not connected with any kind of matter, is the manifestation of Allah’s knowledge, power and authority in relation to all that has been created
- Memorising this verse and reciting frequently is highly recommended
” There is no compulsion in the religion. Indeed truth has been made distinct from error, therefore he who disbelieves in false gods and believes in Allah, indeed, has taken hold of the strongest handhold which will not break off; and Allah is hearing, knowing”: (256)
Flag 3: No Compulsion in Islam: (Baqarah-2: 256)
Note:
- This verse states a psychological fact that the submissive attitude of the mind and heart towards any sacred object cannot be obtained by force or compulsion, therefore, only a clear view of the sacred generates the spontaneous conviction to adopt right and reject the wrong.
- It is not an imperative but an indicative statement. It also asserts that once the right way has become clearly distinct from error, false gods must be rejected with a firm belief in Allah.
- There is no need for compulsion in religion as declared:
- Further elaboration: > ” Verily, We have shown him (man) the right) way; (whether) he be grateful or disbelieving (ungrateful)”; (Dahr-76: 3)
- Taghut (the devil): Means the inordinate, the rebel, the wrongdoer, the strayer. The word ‘Taghut’ in this verse (Baqarah-2: 256) implies all the devilish tendencies and activities which mislead the people.
- The first step towards genuine belief in Allah is the rejection of the devil
Flag 4: Urwatil Wuthqa: (Baqarah-2: 256)

” Allah is the guardian of those who believe. He brings them out of darkness into light. And those who disbelieve, the false gods are their guardians who take them out of light into darkness; they are the inmates of the fire, they shall abide therein”: (257)
” Did you not see him who disputed Ibrahim about his Lord, because Allah had given him the kingdom? When Ibrahim said (to him): My Lord is He who gives life and causes to die. He said: I (also) give life and cause to die. Verily, Allah, causes the sun to rise from the east, so you cause it rise from the west! Thus he who disbelieved was confounded (confused). And Allah does not guide the unjust people”: (258)
” Or (did you not see) the like of he who passed by a town which had passed into complete ruin. He exclaimed! How shall Allah give it life after its death? So Allah caused him to die for a hundred years, and thereafter raised him up to life. He asked him: How long have you tarried? He said: (Perhaps) I have tarried a day, or part of a day. He said: No. You have tarried a hundred years, look at your food and drink! They do not indicate passing of years over it. And look at your donkey! Verily We will make you a sign to mankind. And look at the bones, how We set them together and then clothed them with flesh. And when it became clear to him, he said: I know Allah has power over all things”: (259)
Flag 5: Prophet Uzayr: Death & new life after 100 years: (Baqarah-2: 259)
Note:
- The incident in this verse refers to Prophet Uzayr
- Prophet Uzayr was raised to life again by Allah when Jerusalem was rebuilt on Cyrus’ (Zulqarnain’s) orders after total destruction by Nebuchadnezzar (70) years ago.
” And when Ibrahim said: My Lord! Let me see how you give life to the dead? He said: What! Do you not believe? He said: Yes, but so my heart be at ease. He said: Take four birds, and train them to follow you, then (cut them) and place a part of them on every mountain, and then call them – they will come flying to you. And know that Allah is mighty, wise!: (260)

” The likeness of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is the like of the grain which grows seven ears; in every ear a hundred grains; and verily, Allah gives increase many fold to whomsoever He wills, and Allah is omniscient, knowing”: (260)
” Those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah, then do not follow up what they have spent with reproach or injury, they shall have their reward from their Lord, and they shall have no fear, nor shall they grieve”: (262)
” Kind words and forgiveness are better than charity followed by injury; and Allah is self-sufficient, forbearing”: (263)
Flag 6: How to Multiply Your Wealth? (Baqarah-2: 260-263 & 265)
” O you who believe! Do not render your charity worthless by reproach and injury, like who he spends his wealth to be seen by men, and does not believe in Allah and the last day. So his likeness is as the likeness of a smooth hard rock with earth upon it, then suddenly heavy rain falls upon it leaves it bare. They shall not be able to gain anything of what they have earned (in this world). And Allah does not guide the disbelieving people”: (264)
Flag 7: How to make Your Charity Worthless? (Baqarah-2: 264, 266 & 267)
“And the likeness of those who spend their wealth to seek Allah’s pleasure, and to assert themselves in devotion, is as the likeness of a garden on elevated ground. Heavy rain falls upon it and it yields its fruit twofold; and if heavy rain does not fall upon it, then a gentle shower is sufficient. Allah sees what you do”: (265)
“Does one of you would like it that he should have a garden of palm-trees and vine, with streams flowing in it? He has all kinds of fruit in it, and old age has overtaken him, and he has weak off-springs, when a whirlwind with fire in it smites and it is consumed by the fire. In this way, Allah makes His signs clear to you, so that you may reflect”: (266)
“O you who believe! Spend of the good things which you have earned and of that which We have brought forth for you from the earth, and do not aim at what is bad to spend thereof (in charity), while you would not take it yourselves save with disdain, and know that Allah is self-sufficient, praiseworthy”: (267)
“Shaytan threatens you with poverty, and enjoins sordidness on you whereas Allah promises you pardon from Himself and grace; and Allah is omniscient, knowing”: (268)
Flag 8: Choose between Shaytan’s threat versus Allah’s Promise: (Baqarah-2: 268)

“And whatever alms you give or vow you vow, verily Allah knows it, but the unjust shall have no helpers”: (270)

Flag 10: How to get rid of Your Sins? (Baqarah-2: 270-271)
“It is not incumbent on you (O Muhammad) to guide them, but Allah guides aright whom He wills, and whatever good things you spend, it is to your own good, and do not spend except to seek the pleasure of Allah, and whatever good thing you spend shall be paid back to you in full, and you shall not be wronged”: (272)
“(Alms are) for the poor who are confined in the way of Allah, and are prevented from moving about in the land. The ignorant think them to be rich on account of their abstaining (from begging). You can recognize them from their countenance – they do not beg from men importunately; and whatever good things you give in charity, verily, Allah knows it”: (273)
Flag 11: Discover Spending in Allah’s Way with Guaranteed Success: (Baqarah-2: 260-273)
Note:
Recognizing genuinely needy: (Baqarah-2: 273)

Note:
This verse (Baqarah 274) is in appreciation of acts of charity by Ali Ibna Abu Talib
” Those who swallow usury will not (be able to) rise up (at the resurrection) except as he whom Shaytan has confounded by his touch arises. This is because they say: Trading is only like usury. Whereas Allah has decreed trading lawful and has forbidden usury. Then whosoever desists (after) the admonition has come to him from His Lord, shall have what has gone before, and his affairs are in the hands of Allah: and whoever returns to it, they are inmates of fire, they shall abide therein”: (275)
“Allah blots out (the gains of) usury, and causes charitable deeds to grow; and Allah does not love any ungrateful wrong doers”: (276)
“Verily, those who believe, and do good deeds, and establish prayers, and pay the poor-tax, they shall have their reward from the their Lord, they shall have no fear, nor shall they grieve”: (277)

“And safeguard yourself with full awareness of divine laws against a day when you shall return to Allah; then every soul shall be paid in full what it has earned, and they shall not be wronged”: (281)
“O you who believe! When you deal with each other in contracting a loan for a fixed term, then write it down. And let a scribe write it down justly between you; and the scribe should not refuse to write it down as Allah has taught him; so he should write. And let him who owes the debt dictate, and he should safeguard himself with full awareness of Allah’s laws, his Lord, and not diminish anything from it. But if he who owes the debt is unsound in understanding, or weak, or if is not able to dictate himself, then let his guardian dictate justly, then call to witness from among you men, and if there are not two men, then one man and two women from among those whom you choose to be witnesses, so that if one of the two forgets the (second) of the two may remind the other; and the witnesses should not refuse when they are summoned; and be not averse to writing it (whether it be) small or large, with the time of its falling due. This (procedure) is more equitable in the sight of Allah and assures greater accuracy in testimony, and the nearest way to not entertaining any doubts afterwards, except if it is ready merchandise which you give and take among yourself from hand to hand, then there is no blame on you if you do not write it down. And have witnesses when you trade with one another and let no harm be done to scribe or to the witness, and if you do (so), verily, then it will be a transgression in you; and safeguard yourselves with full awareness of Allah’s laws, and Allah teaches you; and Allah knows all things”: (282)
” And if you are on a journey, and do not find a scribe, then take security in possession; but if one of you trusts another, then let he who is trusted deliver his trust and let him safeguard himself with full awareness of Allah’s laws, his Lord. And do not conceal evidence, and whosoever conceals it, then surely his heart is sinful; and Allah knows what you do”: (283)

“To Allah belongs whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is in the earth; and whether you manifest what is in your minds or conceal it, Allah will call you to account for it; and then He will forgive whom He wills, and punish whom He wills, and Allah has power over all things”: (284)
Note:
(i) Further elaboration below is referred:
“Say O Muhammad: Whether you hide that which is in your heart or manifest it, Allah knows it. He knows whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth, and Allah has power over all things”: (Imran-3: 29)
“The messenger believes in what has been revealed to him from His Lord, and (so do) the believers. They all believe in Allah, His angels His book, and His messengers; (they say): We make no difference between any of His messengers, and they say: We hear and obey. Our Lord! We long for your forgiveness, and to You is the eventual course”: (285)
Note:
(i) Having perfection in belief: (Baqarah-2: 285)

IN THE NAME OF ALLAH, THE BENEFICENT, THE MERCIFUL
Surah Al-Imran (01-91)
“ALIF, LAM, MIM”: (01)
” Allah! There is no god but He, the ever-living, the self-subsisting (the sustainer of all things)”: (02)
” He has sent down to you the Book with truth, confirming that which was (revealed) before it; and He sent down the Tawrat and the Injil”: (03)
Flag 17: Tawrat, Injil, Quran and the holy Prophet: (Imran-3: 03)
Notes:
- Tawrat, Injil, and the books mentioned here and in other verses of the Quran refer to that which was revealed to Musa, Isa, and other prophets.
- Tawrat (the revealed will of Allah) to Musa. In Hebrew it means light. But the Old Testament is a collection of several other books in addition to the Pentateuch.
- Pentateuch means the first five books of the Bible. These books are Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. The word Pentateuch comes from two Greek words that mean “five books” or “five scrolls” According to tradition, the books were written by the Israelite leader, Moses.
- The four gospels of the new testament are not the Injil revealed to the prophet Isa. These gospels contain only some extracts of the sayings of Isa and narrate his activities in Galilee, Jerusalem, and other habitations of the Jews.
- The Christian Bible is a book of traditions like (Muslim, Bukhari) and other writers of traditions.
- The four gospels were written by the followers of Jesus, whom Christians church proclaims as the apostles. In fact teaching of Jesus is the gospel, which means the glad tidings or good news, because the advent of the Holy Prophet of Allah, was foretold by him
- The old and the new testaments, known as the bible, is an edited edition of the corrupted and distorted Jewish scripts, prepared to give currency to the doctrine of the trinity.
- It is mentioned in Mark 1:15 that Jesus asked his disciples to believe in the gospel and preach it to the children of Israil. The gospel referred to by Isa was the Injil, the original text of which is not available.
- On account of theological considerations adhered to by the first council of Venice, the four gospels, written by Mathews, Mark, Luke, and John, are said to be authentic, otherwise, there is no historical evidence to support this claim.
- The Quran is the only un-corrupted book of Allah. The holy Prophet pronounced it as it was revealed, recorded then and there, preserved, never tampered with, and transferred generation after generation.
- The Quranic claim towards its authenticity:
“Falsehood cannot come at it from before it or from behind it. (It is) a revelation from the all-wise, the owner of the praise”
(Ha Mim-41: 42)
” Aforetime, a guidance to the people, and sent down the criterion. Verily those who disbelieve in the signs of Allah, for them is a severe punishment; Allah is mighty, master of retribution”: (04)
Flag 18: The Criterion & Allah’s Signs: (Imran-3: 04)

” He it is who fashions you in the wombs as He likes; there is no god but He, the almighty, the all wise”: (06)
” He it is who has sent down to you (O Muhammad) the book, wherein are (some) decisive verses, they are the basis of the book, and the others have several possible meanings; but those in whose hearts there is perversity go after that which is unclear therein, seeking to mislead by seeking to misinterpret it (to suit their selfish motives), while none knows its hidden interpretation except Allah and those (who are) firmly rooted in knowledge; they say: We believe in it, all is from our Lord. But none heeds (this) save those endowed with wisdom”: (07)

Note:
(i) Nahj al Balagha: The knowledge of ghayb is with the infinite (Allah) only, therefore, the awareness of the finite created beings, even if they are endowed with the limited divine insight, cannot be at par with the wisdom of the ‘Absolute Creator’ (ghayb-ul-mutalq).
(ii) A finite being can know as much as the infinite all-wise likes him to know.
(iii) The finite being may grow in knowledge with divine endowment, bestowed upon him (by the Absolute Creator) based on his own merit and potential, to the level of perfection. The limiting difference, however, between the ‘Absolute Creator’ (not a created being) and the finite created being shall always be there.

” Say (O Muhammad): Shall I tell you what is better than these? - Imran the father of Maryam, is referred to in this verse, not Imran, the father of Musa and Harun.
- Between Musa and Isa, there were several prophets of Allah (Dawud, Sulayman, Yunus, Zakariyya, Yahya, Isa)
- Zakariyya, husband of Hannah’s sister, and Maryam’s maternal uncle was chosen by casting lots to take charge of Maryam
” And when she had given birth to her, she said: My Lord! I have delivered a female. And Allah knew better what she had delivered; the male is not as the female. And I have named her Maryam, and verily I seek refuge for her and her offspring with You from the accursed (outcast) Shaytan”: (36)
” So her Lord accepted her with gracious acceptance, and made her grow up with a graceful growth, and He made Zakariyya take care of her. Whenever Zakariyaa came to see her in the sanctuary, he found her provided with sustenance. He said: O Maryam! from where this come to you? She said: It is from Allah. Verily Allah provides for whomsoever He likes without measure”: (37)

” Then the angels said to him while he stood in praying in the sanctuary: Verily Allah gives you glad tidings of (a son whose name is) Yahya (who comes) to confirm a word from Allah, (and he is) noble, chaste, and a prophet from the righteous”: (39)
Note:
- The phrase (bi-kalimatin) shows that Isa is not the only kalimah (or the only ‘word’ in this sense, from Allah) but there are more and he is one of them.
” He said: My Lord! How can I have a son when indeed age has overtaken me, while my wife is barren? He (the Lord) said: Even so, Allah does whatsoever He likes”: (40)
” He said: My Lord! Appoint a sign for me. He (The Lord) said: The sign for you shall be that you will not speak to men for three days except by signs; and remember your Lord much and glorify Him in the evening and morning” : (41)
” And (recall, O Muhammad) when the angels said: O Maryam! Verily, Allah has chosen, and purified you, and chosen you above (all) the women of the worlds”: (42)
” O Maryam be devout to your Lord, prostrate yourself, and bow down with those who bow (in prayers)”: (43)
Note:
Maryam is neither a goddess nor a mother-god. She is a created being and as such she has been asked to pray like all true devout servants of Allah
” This is of the news of the (things) unseen which We reveal to you (O Muhammad); (for) you were not with them when they cast lots with their pens as to who (of them) should take care of Maryam; nor were you with them when they disputed (among themselves)”: (44)
” (Recall, O Muhammad) when the angels said: O Maryam! Verily, Allah gives you glad tidings of a word from Him, whose name shall be Masih, Isa, son of Maryam, illustrious in this world and the hereafter, and (he shall be) one of those brought near (to Allah)”: (45)
” And he shall speak to the people when in the cradle and when in the prime of his life; and (he shall be) of the righteous”: (46)
” She said: My Lord! How can I have a son when no man has touched me? He (The Lord) said: Even so Allah creates whatsoever He wills; when He decrees a thing He only says to it: Be! and it is”; (47)

Flag 34: Mubahaila: (Imran-3: 61)
Note:
MUBIHILA with Christians refers to a well-known event mentioned in every book of history, traditions, and tafsir written by all Muslim Scholars.
(1). An invitation was sent to Christians of Najran, a town of Yemen, in the 9th year of Hijra by the Holy Prophet to accept Islam. A deputation of 60 scholars came to discuss the matter with the Holy Prophet. Abdul Masih the chief monk, asked the Holy Prophet as to who was the father of Isa, thinking that the Holy Prophet would accept God as the father of Isa. The Verse (Imran-3: 59) of the surah was revealed and was presented as a reply:
” > Likeness of Isa: “Verily the likeness of Isa with Allah is as was the likeness of Adam; He created him out of the dust, then He said to him ‘BE’ and he was”: (Imran-3: 59)).
” (This is ) the truth from your Lord, therefore do not be of those who doubt it” (Imran-3: 60)
(2). Christians were not willing to listen to reason. Then the Verse (61) was revealed to call them to a spiritual contest (Mubahila) by invoking the curse of Allah on the liars.
“And say to him, who disputes with you therein after the knowledge has come to you (O Muhammad): Come let us summon our sons and your sons, and our women and your women, and ourselves and yourselves, and then humbly pray and invoke the curse of Allah on the liars”: (Imran-3: 61)
(3) Christians agreed to this contest.
(4) Early the next morning, the 24th of the month of Dhilhijjah, the Holy Prophet sent Salman to the selected site, outside the city area, to set up a shelter for those whom he would take with him, as his son, women, and selves.
(5) A large number of companions in the masjid making themselves available for the selection, and a huge crowd in waiting saw the Christians with their selected men, women, and children ready for the contest.
(6) At the appointed time everyone saw the Holy Prophet coming in, Imam Hussain in his arms, Imam Hasan holding his index finger, walking beside him, Bibi Fatima Zahra close to his heels, and Imam Ali just behind.
(7) The Holy Prophet raised his hands to heaven and said:
“O my Lord! These are the people of my house”.
(8) The chief monk looked up and down at the faces of the Pure Five (Panjatan Pak), from whom emanated a radiant and brilliant glow; and this sight filled him with awe and anguish. He cried out aloud:
(9) ‘By Jesus! I see the faces that if they turn upward to the heavens and pray, the mountains shall move. Believers in Jesus of Nazareth, I tell you the truth. Should you fail to come to some agreement with Muhammad, he, along with the godly souls with him, shall wipe out your existence forever, should they invoke the curse of God on you’.
(10) Christians saw the wisdom of their chief and readily agreed to arrive at a settlement. As there is no compulsion in religion (Baqarah-2: 256), the Holy Prophet gave them complete freedom to practice their faith. He also agreed to protect their lives and possessions; and for this service, the Christians consented to pay a nominal fee (Jizya).
“Verily, this is the true narrative. There is no god save Allah; and verily, Allah is almighty, the all-wise”: (62)
” But if they turn away, then, verily, Allah knows the mischief-makers”: (63)
” Say: O people of the book! come to a word common between us and you, that we worship none but Allah, and (that we) shall not associate anything with Him, and (that) some of us shall not take others for lords other than Allah! And if they turn away, then say: Bear witness that we are Muslims (who have surrendered to Allah)”: (64)
” O people of the book! Why do you dispute about Ibrahim, when the Tawart and Injil were not sent down till after him? Do you not then understand?: (65)
” Verily, you are those who disputed about that of which you had (some) knowledge; but why do you dispute about that of which you do not have any knowledge? And Allah knows, and you do not know”: (66)
” Ibrahim was not a Jew, nor a Christian, but an upright Muslim; and he was not of the polytheists”: (67)

(ii) Islamic Attitude Prerequisite: No discrimination on account of religion, creed, or faith: Contrary to it: discharging the trust of any or all without fail being obligatory. On the authority of the Holy Prophet: A man who prays, fasts and behaves like a believer, but lies when he talks, breaks his promises and cheats if trusted, is, in fact, a hypocrite
